Did you know that breastfeeding lowers your risk of developing type 2 diabetes? The breasts use glucose to produce milk so your blood glucose and insulin levels are lower. Women who had Gestational diabetes and didn't breastfeed are 50% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes! I'm so fascinated by everything I'm learning about diabetes!

Did you know Vitamin D deficiency and Magnesium deficiency can contribute to Gestational Diabetes?? Makes perfect sense why I had it my first pregnancy and know multiple women who had GD....no sun exposure!
Most people are magnesium deficient. Pregnancy can further deplet the body of the mineral. I also recently learned about table salt and how it lacks many natural minerals. Real mineral salt can help manage GD!

Loved the meal and snack suggestions! I struggle in particular with healthy and filling snacks and better dinners.
Things I'm trying... Almond milk for my coffee and will try stevia to sweeten my Greek yogurt instead of honey next time I get to the store.
Also apparently instant oatmeal is much higher in carbs than regular oats. Who knew! That's also next on my list to change.

So far, very easy to read and very informative! I had undiagnosed GD with my son, I'm pregnant again and have been watching my diet since I got the positive pregnancy test. I have my glucose tolerance test next week and I'm anxious to see what the results are. I'm prediabetic so I'm fairly certain I'll fail the test, but it's okay because I already am eating so much better than before and am learning a ton!
