Perfect for an audiobook listen

I am speaking of the flow of words, that ought to exist between us and the world. The great conversation. That has fallen silent, or else it is carried on in voices we cannot hear.

It is not what we thought it would be… Nothing here knows us. Nothing recognises us. Not the air, not the trees, not the hills. We speak, and no one answers us. It is like deafness, like blindness. It is like being lost in a world of fog, or being suddenly submerged under icy water.
