These are lovely stories.

Oh this is phenomenal

"They've taken our histories, but they havent taken our stories. Listen. When they burn the books & drown the land, when even our gravestone are cracked, dug up,washed away ..when they have won - then all we have left is what we remember & what we whisper to one another[...]They killed her, but we wont let her die. She'll be more like a legend then, rather than historical fact, but whats a legend but history told slantwise

One time, awhile back, I heard the district attorney call her a monster and I thought “why, that’s what a good mother is, someone who will get ugly for the ones they love.”

🔥"sometimes every choice is a bad one."

🔥"Because you cant mourn properly if nobody remember what you lost. Because you weren't robbed if nobody remembers what was taken."

‘The Bible and the gun, and old formula’. Oof

"Names are just prayers mothers make to the future that the world will keep spinning on its axis, undying, for as long as you live "

"books need to be read quite as much as we need to read them."
