Ch. 4 is about Chatterton. Chatterton’s love of the sea was shaped by his grandfather. Frustrated by armchair opinions about Vietnam, he enlisted as an Army medic. Though he first avoided danger, he soon rescued wounded soldiers under fire and earned a fearless reputation. After scallop fishing failed, he became a commercial diver. His calm under pressure made him a natural, and shipwreck diving became his passion.

The rag-tag group from different backgrounds sets out to the new coordinates. Chatterton goes down first. The shape of the vessel seems strange, especially the angled hatch. He peeks in and sees a torpedo. It’s a U-boat! But is it the narcosis? He’s sure. The team can’t wait to go down. They all know it’s a U-boat, but which one and why here in NJ? This has to be a secret, but not for long. 4 people know now.

Chapter 2 is insane. At 200 feet of depth shipwreck divers have very little time to explore before they have to ascend and decompress along the way. That’s why they must know the ship’s layout inside and out so they don’t get lost. If they do they can panic, empty their tanks, which bc causes more panic. If they stir up soot during panic they’re now blind and they will drown. New respect for shipwreck diving.

Wreckage divers are like pirates; finders keepers, whatever floats is fair game. Divers were even cutting open others bags to take treasure, and settling fights underwater or on the boats.

Nagle’s friend , Skeets, has stumbled upon a big wreckage, hopefully, but is too dangerous for him. Nagle and good friend Chatterton assemble dive team, with no guarantee there is a wreckage at all, to find something good.
