There's a medieval mad max mf called Sergius XL in this book.
"As in the instance of Sergius XL, whose ordination corresponded to his wife's consecration as deaconess, the transition from wife to sister is formulaic and goes without saying."

This is so, so interesting. So far: priests and wet dreams, women and masturbation and can having sex in church result in you and your partner being stuck together like dogs? I love medieval theology, never change.
