Oh my god that ending. This was fucking beautiful. It is so rare that I am moved so deeply. This was damn near Tolkien levels of craft and I never say such things lightly. The characters are otherworldly and I loved them all, even King Brandin of Ygrath. Dianora, you poor soul. I hope you are at peace. Im glad that Devin, Baerd, Catriana, and even Alessan got a form of happy ending. I look forward to more from Kay.

I saw someone say Kay writes women poorly and they could not be more wrong. Dianora, Catriana, Alais, Alienor, all well rounded characters, none of them defined by being a preening submissive woman. As we approach the climax, I am so stressed out, my god.

My god this book carves into your heart. I feel like Im flayed open every time I read it. I’m glad this was my first GGK read, it is magnificent.

Brandin must truly love Dianora or more aptly, hate Tigana to give up his kingship of Ygrath and remain in his conquered lands. Alessan’s mother, Pasithea, is a right cunt. God what an embittered cold-blooded bitch.
