Again, I appreciate that we are indeed getting to see these distinct personalities. Obviously, McCann is a skilled writer of characters. But I don't LIKE the characters!! I would like to just see who wins the quilting competition and then I want to move on from this and never read about "sweet" little old ladies ever again. It is funny though: like Golden Girls, I can imagine people being like "I'm a Candace."

It's actively upsetting me now; these little old ladies are being so mean to each other. I knew it was a possibility that there would be some cattiness, but the way Leera is treating Betty Lou is out of hand. And Lucy is a freaking liability and she's mad at Betty Lou about it?! And if Candace says something, the group is fine with it, whereas if Betty Lou were to say the exact same thing, everyone is against it.

I keep forgetting to update. See, the first third was so cute and charming and now the middle is dragging. I've got two other books that both came in on Libby yesterday and I'm like nooooooo, I need to finish this!! but I'm only getting through a chapter a day. I will say I certainly am getting a definitive sense of all the personalities, not just 'a bunch of old ladies' but... there's almost nothing about quilting!

The first 30% went down super smooth. It's absolutely adorable and hilarious and heartwarming. Even though I'm not 60-85, I'm still very much identifying with these ladies, and even though I'm not a young gay man, I'm identifying with the men too. Especially the really talkative one!! More old biddy gossip, please!!
