Status Updates From The Sound of Waves

Although my parents are from the mainland, my mother used to tell me how my grandmother thought she will never see my mother again when she was leaving for the US. The idea of a different location was unfathomable to her.

Heard a lot of stories about these “field trips” as well from friends and cousins. It’s such an important event for kids there.

The description of the lighthouse keeper reminds me of all my Japanese rural uncles. My mom would swear they are tender hearted but I was never convinced until I got older.
