It’s cathartic to hear a prominent public intellectual call out the excuse making for Biblical violence guiding prior cultures’ views on torture, punishment, correction, and wrong think.

A great read so far but in the “humanitarian revolution” section I think there’s too much emphasis on a history of ideas and human agency- not the more mechanistic explanations I’d expect from Pinker
