Enjoying so much. Don't love everything about it--the romance and some of the character changes happen a little too quickly, but I'm still so glad I finally picked this up and highly recommend it to all historical lovers, especially those who want to take a mini-break from Victorian and Regency. Emphasis on mini-break, because Regency is the best. ;)

Absolutely loving this. I'm an oldest child, so I totally get Norma Rose 100% (control, control, control). The world building is incredible. Love the era. So fun and engrossing!!!

--"Wouldn't it be the bee's knees if they actually got married?"
--"Yes, that would be berries, just berries."
--"If I'd known she planned on running away with him, I'd have given her some sisterly advice. And a rubber or two."

....Proof that Josie & Twyla will be more interesting heroines than Norma Rose. :P

'Norma Rose turned off the water, but let her hands rest on the taps. She was no longer sixteen & poor, carrying water from an outside well to wash remade clothes & darning her socks each night to get one more day out of them. She's come a long way since those days, & was never going back. Let them talk.'

'Without his suit jacket, his rolled-up shirt sleeves revealed thick & well-muscled arms, & the black suspenders clipped to his pants framed an impressively flat stomach & narrow hips. She'd never doubted that with the right clothes, even a rat could look good.'

'Her father wasn't a gangster. He was a businessman who, at times, associated with mobsters. There was nothing illegal about that. Gangsters were very good customers. They never squabbled about the price, always paid with cash, in full, & usually in advance.'

This cover dude kinda looks like a Gorn -- I can't unsee that narrow strip of teeth. But I'll try not to hold it against him.
