I was a little leery about grabbing this one, despite the fun premise, because I already know the author's writing style doesn't really work for me. And now here we are about halfway in. And I'm torn. The story *is* fun. Julian's eidetic memory and clearly neurodivergent brain are fun. The Eldritch monsters are fun. The writing itself is stilted and NOT fun, as I've always found from this author. Sigh.

Is this fun so far? Yes. But is Julian's instant deduction of the meaning of the book a little too... astute? Also yes 🫤
