Ethan goes through a decent story arc as he comes to terms with his feelings of betrayal from previous fiancé. She overcomes the feelings of low worth left in wake of her ex's abuse and figures out how to go forth since her husband is now absent.

Former fiancé was the traitor, as I expected. After their night together, they promptly marry and head off to his estate where he thinks she will be safe. All is well until they attend a party, where the son of the house tries to get her alone and kiss her, which is, of course, when he finds them together. He goes off to France in a huff. When they get the info that her ex is traitor, he races back to save her.
