Oro es demasiado tiernoo

"And why is that?" I ask, through my teeth.

Friends.
I almost laugh. I will never be his friend. I will never be able to see past the blood of his sword, or the sins of his father.

"Your brother is betrothed."
My first thought is to say, No, he isn't. But I haven't seen him in days. Ever since he became king, a gap has opened between us.
Instead, I say, "To who?"
"Aurora."

"Right," I say, laughing. "You think having friends, and loving my family, makes me weak."
"Yes. And also, an idiot."

That makes me laugh. And, I might be imagining it, but I swear the corner of his mouth turns up for just a moment. Then, he's back to scowling.

Honestly so weird seeing them like this.
I wonder when the curses sets in?

"Be grateful you had one at all,"
"You clearly had a mother."
"Yes, but I didn't know her."
Good, I think. The dark, twisted part of me that has been fed by rage is glad he has suffered. That he did not experience the love I did.I want to rub it in. I want to keep trying to hurt him.

A moment passes in silence. Then I venture to ask, "What happened to her?"
His answer is immediate. Cold. "My father had her killed."
