Gotten through to the introduction and to the first chapter, where Alexiveich speaks of her village, where the war stories will told by women and their songs sounded like weeping. So far, it’s both heartbreaking but saddening, hearing these stories from women who were just children, seventeen or eighteen, when they entered the war.

This one is definitely taking me a while to read. Not because its particularly challenging, or boring, but its quite heavy which is expected. I often find that I can read a few pages, and need to put down the book to actually think about the recollections from these women about their experiences in WW2.
A very interesting and important read though, and would definitely recommend.
