Status Updates From Two Wrongs: A Dark Romance

“Marriage, though,” he says, nuzzling close so he can kiss my neck. “Marriage needs to happen sooner.”

He checks it, then says, “Aw, shit. Silvan said Sophie wasn’t feeling well so they’re just gonna set up tomorrow instead.”

As long as I never want to leave, I’m completely free.

“You never would have been able to keep him, though. Tim didn’t commit. I guess when that quality was divvied out between us, I got all of it.”

Nina isn’t like Cassie. She’s not protective of people outside of her direct circle. She doesn’t have any moral qualms about handing Cassie over to a monster.

I can cage her and still make her need me, but I can’t force her to love me, and I’ve become quite addicted to that particular drug. I don’t want to live without it, but I won’t live without her.

It’s not like Tim was altogether innocent, anyway. He was perfectly willing to sacrifice Cassie to save me.

He just didn’t know I’d be willing to sacrifice him to save her.

If I’m the key, she’s the lock I was poured for.

There have only been two times in my life that I wasn’t sure what to do.

Both times have involved Cassie Pritchard.

“If it will make you more comfortable, we can have Terry draw something up to protect you legally. Like a reverse prenup. I’ll have him draft up a contract committing me to paying all of your expenses while you attend college, even if I break up with you.”

“What if I break up with you?” I ask lightly.

“That’s cute.”

“I’m not sure Torrance ever absorbed those lessons. Sometimes I worry that my son is a snake, and the only thing you can trust a snake to do is strike.” He meets my gaze and my fluttering heart lurches. “Whoever murdered my son… they killed the wrong one.”

“The only difference between a threat and a promise is your willingness to participate.”

“Just leave it, but know that I hate it, and if you ever cheat on me, especially with her… I will lose my mind, and you know what I’m capable of.”

He chuckles. “That’s ruthless.”

“I guess I just want to know… if I’m someone you would have picked.”

He cocks an eyebrow as he takes a drink of his orange juice. “Trust me,” he says, setting the glass down on the table. “I picked you.”

“No. Dick may have actually been understating things. He’s an evil bastard, but he loves his wife.”

“I’ve rewritten our entire reality to save your life, so you have to know I would never take it.”

“We are a team, and I see us as being permanently in this together, but if it came down to only being able to save one of us, I would pick you.”

I’m very excited to read a new Sam Mariano book but also reluctant (I haven’t read my friends’ full reviews only slight spoilers and I am mostly going in blind) My reluctance is similar to most of my mutuals and that’s because the fate of Coastal Elite is keeping us on the edge with Dare and Aubrey’s fate!
