I thought imi was in for a historical romance. I was wrong (but also not disappointed even without the romance part)

this books is a heartfelt account of two perspectives in the presence of historic events

I enjoy the pacing of the story and the characters internal monologue.

It seems Ella is waking up, kind of?

I appreciate the revelation that Ella has, and I hope for more.

I appreciate the short chapters, and the back and forth perspectives

Ella has lost some relatability as a protagonist. I suppose that could be purposeful to reflect her royal station.

I’m enjoying it so far. My goals with reading this one is to expand my genre horizons and to relearn to relax and enjoy a story, without being picky about prose and vernacular.
