this feels like roberts had to hit a specific word count on the first chapter using only phrases relating to hoyt and his brother and “the demon”, like we get it, man. we get it. jesus fucking christ

im like two pages into the first chapter and we’ve already hit STRIKE ONEEEEEEEEE as our main character (a young, powerful sorcerer) stricken with grief over the turning of his twin brother into an immortal of the night (a vampire) by (apparently) THE lilith (which he considers a fate worse than dying) also cannot stop himself from feeling “a terrible arousal” over the “white swell of her breasts”
