this point in time (The Twilight Zone, which is great). I went into this with the intention of finishing the whole series before the year ends but I don’t think I can do it. And although there are many aspects that I don’t like in this book I still want to continue with the series and see how it all concludes. I might continue but only after a while but I’m not really sure if i’ll do. We’ll see.

On the other hand, I found it a bit too vulgar for my liking. And while its fairytale-like, myth-esque prose was part of its charm, it grew a bit dull to me. I don’t think this is a fault of the book per se rather that I’m not in the mood for these short, episodic, interconnected stories. And I don’t really know why that is. What an interesting read! This book had so many great aspects to it. Mainly, the many fun concepts it has and how they were explored in a succinct yet charming way. Some of these ideas could easily be explored in a whole series. I loved how grand the world felt and how with each story it expanded more and more. Some of the characters were very fascinating. And overall had a great time reading it.

“Her existence had been like a dream, her dreams sometimes more acute than her existence.”

Zorayas should’ve let the sun turn Azhrarn into a powder or stone or whatever. Though I understand why she took that bargain.

“What is one scar more, O King? I will tell you. One scar more to me is one crown less to you.” What a line. Zorayas’ armor is so cool! I feel my fingers itching to paint it.

Zorayas did nothing wrong. I wish that pedlar had had a worse death. I just wish that she’d find love and joy and acceptance but I’m scared, this world seems cruel.

I really liked this part! It’s leaning more toward fantasy while still having fairy tales elements, it was wonderful! King Zorashad having his whole household slain (and him having 20 children) was insane! I can’t wait to see what happens to his last surviving daughter! She had both her arms broken at the elbows and multiple facial scars! And her mother was found and killed. What a way to start life!

I think I’ll enjoy this part a lot more than the first one! I liked the first part so much! Azhrarn (whom I’ve been calling Azharan up until now) reminds me so much of Loki (his deviousness and trickery). It is insane how Zorashad reminded me of Griffith! A military gifted leader who’s never been defeated with a strange amulet rumored to be magical! It is insane!

Their story somehow reminds me of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Both Orpheus and Kazir journeyed into the underworld to save their beloved and both of them are gifted poets and singers. Only Kazir and Ferazhin’s story ended on a happy note.

I enjoyed Kazir and Ferazhin’s story a lot! I also love the name Ferazhin, it’s so cool! I pronounce as Fee-ruh-zeen and I don’t care if it is pronounced otherwise. This is the coolest way to pronounce it (according to me of course) so I’ll stick with it. I liked Kazir! He’s so kind and sweet. And I’m glad that we’d continued on with Ferazhin’s story.

Vayi’s necklace reminds me of the One Ring from Lord of the Rings it terms the obsession and jealousy that are associated with it. I think this chapter is my favorite so far! To see it go from hand to hand in the realm of men was quite fun.

The cover of this book is gorgeous! I can’t stop staring at it!

I’m glad I read the introduction before starting this book (I usually don’t. I used to only read it after finishing the book) the story about how this book came to be was heartwarming! And I can tell just by reading the introduction that I’m going to like this book. I need to read Oscar Wilde’s fairy tales. I can’t believe I haven’t read anything by him yet.
