“Are you hungry?” I asked him, and something passed over his face, a shadow that was there only for a second.

“I could eat,” he said conversationally.

Instead of standing around debating what could or couldn’t happen when the crazy woman in front of you completes the spell, you could, I don’t know, stop her, maybe?
Just saying.
It doesn’t even have to be all five of you, one or two would suffice, while the others keep speculating.

Yep, it seems more and more likely that Leo will be the winner in the end.

So, Ebron is attracted to Marcus, but he also likes making him uncomfortable.
Marcus seemed nice for all of 5 minutes, before it came out that he used a spell on Ebron to “make him give in to his basic urges”.
I think Leo might actually turn out to be my favorite character here. Yes, I'm talking about the vampire who thinks killing people is an acceptable problem-solving strategy.

This book is just so damn good.

I started Book 2, but quickly realized it would be best if I refreshed myself with a reread of Book 1. A reread is no hardship -- this book blew me away. Debut novel, and a freebie to boot? It's no longer free (still on KU, though), but I challenge anyone to read the first chapter and be able to walk away. I seriously suspect Cal Matthews is going to end up on my list of favorite authors.

This is totally fucking with my head! Do I trust Marcus? Or is he an evil asshole of a witch?

"He me the same credit card." Another missing word! Why, why, why is this book riddled with this particular error? The writing is so very good, but then there'll be a sentence rendered nonsensical by a simple copy-editing error. In addition to being annoying it makes me sad, because this book deserves better than that. :(

Wow, that was a hell of a first chapter! I probably shouldn't have started this book at 1:30am -- I may be in for a long night.

Finally something different and unique and unexpected in the MM genre. Finally something I want to read.
