As he bent to kiss her he kept his eyes on hers, watching the emotions flickering through her—desire, fear, and—dear God—trust. Where had that come from? Who was he that she should trust him? But then they came together and that didn’t matter, either.

He wanted her, wanted her with a possessiveness that scared him. Had he really thought that she was simply plain? Maybe he needed to pay a visit to his optometrist. She was far more than pretty, and whenever she smiled she put the sexiest women he had ever been with to shame.

He had just treated her like a person, like someone he wanted to get to know better. Flattered though she was by the attention, a part of her wished that he hadn’t been quite so nice and had flirted with her just a little. Those dark eyes and sinfully sexy smile suggested he wasn’t all nice, though.

“You’re such a downer,” Kimberly said. “Fine. We can have weekly meetings to sip herbal tea and complain about all the boys we’re not getting until we’ve all turned into crazy old cat ladies who hoard things and talk to ourselves.”
“Thanks for your vote of confidence,” Kimberly growled.

He had started to turn away when the blonde spotted a book and in that instant her face came alive. A moment before he would have sworn that she was nothing special, rather pretty in a wholesome sort of way like any of a thousand other girls who stepped into his shop every semester. As the book practically levitated from the shelf to her hands, though, she transformed into something exquisite.
