I think I'm nearly half way through the book and wondering what era of the x-men it is because Wolverine and Cyclops have swapped ideologies, Magneto is supposed to be a good guy, Kitty Pryde is in the picture and I haven't heard much from Magnus so I'm not sure how he'll tie into the who story as of yet. Might be a great idea to read secret wars afterwards to fill the gaps.
