"The Seat of Judgment" - despite more of the "dying race" motifs, pretty good!

Even more "last of the race" stories, but the quality is improving - "For I Am a Jealous People" was legitimately pretty awesome, even with the fairly strong WAR OF THE WORLDS resemblance in some of the set pieces. "Instinct" was also pretty good, but the explicit sf-scene name drops were maybe too cute.

All, or almost all, of the stories after "Helen O'Loy" seem to be variations on the "last member of a dying race" theme. Somewhat tiring, ironically.

"Helen O'Loy" is pretty good, but we're in middling territory from then on. Then again, THE BEST OF DAMON KNIGHT also had this issue, and the stories picked up in the middle. Maybe it's a problem of BEST OF editions for famous sf editors...?

Second time reading “Little Jimmy”. Still wonderful.
