Steve Gibbs: “After graduating from the Academy, I worked the jail where I learned how to control people. I also learned how the bad guys moved, walked and talked. I learned talking members and another hard-core criminals thought and thought. I was among the worst and society. I was locked in with murders, rapist, robbers, burglars, and pedophiles”

Story of a deputy Thom Bradstock who tried to save a drowning man with no spotter while failing to take off his uniform, shoes and bulletproof vest before climbing into the water. He was still given Meritorious Service Award. Still says he feels guilty about it but excuses himself by saying he is a skilled swimmer who braved the ocean after a hurricane manuel in 1983

Story of one of Angel Jaimes’ shootings as told to the author

Angel tells author “ we practiced because we knew we were going to get into a shooting. We were arresting too many hard-core gang members and criminals. It was just a matter of time… I had already been in two shootings.”

Author says it is common for deputies to throw drinks out of their windows

Author transfers to West Hollywood station where he is pulled into the lieutenant’s office and told: “YOU CAN’T BEAT PEOPLE HERE LIKE YOU DID IN LENNOX.”

Author interviews deputy named Angel who reports being grabbed “pulled by the nuts by sheirffs, LAPD, Baldwin PD.” Angel also says he wanted to become a sheriff’s deputy pulled him over while driving 4 friends. Angel says he realized the deputy had “real power.”

Booker, who worked the jails with the author, says to him “I know you are bad, you were the leader of the goon squad!” And to another investigator “He was bad, a real bad dude; ran the jail. He ran the goon squad.”

Second time he mentions another man as attractive

Author rides in an ambulance with a man who he shot, and shot him in response. He tells the man “ DIE MOTHERFUCKER!! YOU’RE DYING. DOES IT HURT?! GOOD! I HOPE IT HURTS! YOU KNOW YOU’RE DYING!!! FUCKING DIE!!!

Author is shot while doing a sting on gay sex workers with his partner. Deputy Robison and Jimmy Davis respond.
