Reading this as a primer before tackling Hobsbawm’s Quartet. Thus far it is exactly what I was hoping for as an introduction to recent European history. It is an overview, but it manages to provide illuminating historical context, some of which is new to me. Having just spent a year living in Barcelona and travelling about Europe I am hoping to solidify my own insights and gain further historical knowledge.
