The Shadow over Innsmouth spent the first half on haphazard narration—lots of the rather unlikeable narrator telling us that things felt wrong, but nothing to show for it. When the story finally gets going, things progress rapidly. The narrator becomes a bit of a Mary Sue in his escape, and again, a good bit of ‘this was creepy’ without a ton of actual creepy
