So far?? CHARMED. I am absolutely charmed. Delighted. Swooned. Entertained. Gripped!!!! I <3 Baru. I love how clever she is, how scared she is, how much she tries NOT to be charmed by charming people around her, and I love how fragile and foolish she is at times.

The political intrigue is there. Plot is plotting. It’s giving my CAN we talk about the political and economic state of the world????

It's been on the shelf a while. Let's see what all the fuss is about

This started off so strong and I really want to see where it goes but the prose is just a bit too cold and technical for me 😭I understand the point is that baru has been stripped of any ability to develop a sense of self, but at the point where all she thinks about is math and political chess for hundreds of pages it starts to feel like poor character writing. I'm struggling to stay invested

Very intriguing

I never I'd say this but accounting is kinda hot!! The plot is everything, I'm SO invested. I wake up thinking about what I'm going to find out today, it's so juicy.
My brain when I'm reading TTBC: Yeah, girl, spill that tea.
Ugh, Baru is ingenious, she's brilliant, she's impressive, and incredibly perceptive and astute.

i’m actually learning so much about economics, this is kinda crazy. it’s been very jarring to read a character that doesn’t just run her mouth all the time. she’s so tactfully witty and cunning, it’s awesome.
