Powerful vested interests mitigate against the city and its region being managed as a system. Industry clings to the tradition of cheap, inadequate waste disposal.

This is what happens when the city picks the lowest bidder for their projects. Shit isn't done right and the people suffer.

Cities import more water than all other goods and materials combined.

Think about that. Think about the amount of water that a city uses and how much it actually *needs* to use. Maybe we should think about what is right for the environment instead of what we prefer for human entertainment and comfort.
