Status Updates From Bob the Gambler

Took me a long time to start liking this book--I am not a gambler--but I am finally hooked. Conversations with 14-year-old RV (what an awful nickname) are so spot on that I'd recommend this book to every person who is raising or expects to raise or who already raised a teenager.

So far this is the best Fred Barthelme novel I've read. The opening paragraph is incredible, as the way in which Barthelme relates to American junk culture is possibly the most powerful aspect of his writing. There's a lot to say about this novel, but what the fuck is up with his pension of calling women "babe" ?????
