If there's one thing religions like Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism have in common, it's their belief on a person's rights regardless of status . Even in war, a certain code is maintained.

Even the non-religious proponents of the ratified Human Rights Declaration recognizes the role of Faith and religion (Christianity, Buddhism, etc.) in the formation of the human rights declaration.

Interesting point- Human rights are not static and the only way to know that any rights transcend differences (e.g. race, gender, etc.) is if they survive the test of time. Just like how the 1st generation rights brought by the Enlightenment period are still part of the HR declaration, future HR will be tested by history.

Thr author shares that History of Human Rights can be traced back to the European Enlightenment period when the international languags of both power and resistance were born. But even with this, in my opinion, this period still holds little significance because a lot of what we recognize today as human rights (e.g. right to vote) are not even discussed. Maybe in the next periods? Let's see.

Skipped thr intro cuz it bored me 😆 But I'm interested in the actual history of human rights.
I love how it seems like the last book I read's 4 pillars for non-humans (the book being fiction) were carved from the actual 4 pillars for Human Rights - DIGNITY, LIBERTY, EQUALITY and BROTHERHOOD.
