Fun start to this one. Haven't read one of these in a couple of decades. I know they're derided by some, but the better intrigues (Mills & Boon, Harlequin) are cousin to the old pulps - romance/intrigue. People forget (or don't know) that Harlequin put out some hard core pulp back in the day. None of that now, they're tamer, more romantic and modern, but they do fill a certain niche, and can be a nice distraction.
