Church is at war. Tough decisions must be made.

Consensus voting: strive for consensus. Even those in the minority must submit to the decision of the majority for the sake of the church, unless:
1. against Scripture; 2. against conscience. If so more prayer and talk are needed.

Elders must seek to present a unified front to the congregation. Peacemakers, not peacekeepers.

"One of the main reasons for people's leaving churches is perceived lack of care." 35-36

True of bi-vocational ministry: "It is difficult to serve two institutions.... for it is human nature to enjoy one job more than the other. One master will be ill served because the servant's heart will not be fully involved with the required responsibilities." 34-35

chapter thesis: "choosing and training godly leaders who are scripturally qualified is the cure for poor leadership." 30.

3 Types of church leaders: Cattlemen - harsh overlords; Drovers - yes men; Shepherd - servant leaders

Leaders must see the need for and be willing to carry out change for the sake of Christ's church.

Thesis: the spiritual health of a church is directly connected to the spiritual health of her leaders.

Trusting God is the key to leadership. First know, love, trust, then grow.
