At some point I really started liking Nichol. He's precious.
Also super scary looking Mer people.

The speed of which this went from kind of awkward sexual sequence to legit political/magical drama was real fast. Like, I can't even right now.

The four is worshipped and feared. It's interesting.Elements and religion. Colm is cautious,but he really sticks up for himself when it matters. and I really like his character.

The magic in this world is really interesting so far.There are seal people. He got old and returned tot he sea as a seal. Like what?
We've now encountered the love interest, though and I'm not liking him very much. Hoping that changes.

I really loved Colm's stepmother. Her acceptance of him in this setting was really interesting to me.Don't think o'm going to be a big fan of the letters Colm sends home to his sister, though. keeping an open mind. Colm's first time seeing a camel was hilarious.I think I will like this story.
