Status Updates From Tokyo Ghoul, vol. 5

Chapter 48 - A CCG focused chapter. Pretty neat to check up on Amon. I had forgotten about him. He’s seemingly getting a bit of a crew now to investigate the 11th ward murders. They’re also interested in Sukiyama and Rize, both dead now of course. However they also want Touka, so I’m interested to see Amon’s drive for revenge guide him. Not to mention this new freak of a 3rd Rank Investigator to spice it up.

Chapter 47 - I’ve grown quite fond of Nishio, I find him to be the most interesting character of the book by this point. Touka is also pretty good; and they both vie for the top spot. I like the idea of investigation into Rize, very neat. And this new villain has been introduced.

Yay, I like bonus background chapters. Rize was a complete freak, a menace through and through that lived for herself in a world where Ghouls tried to live regimented lives to maintain their secrecy. But with Rize’s strength it simply wasn’t necessary. I enjoy this world building, the wards are an interesting base for the story, and seeing more than the 20th is neat.

Touka is cool. Really nice kagune, pretty surprising how easily she seemed to kill Gourmet. I like Nishiki and Kimi, so that's a fun aspect of this story. Not in LOVE with Tokyo Ghoul so far but it's certainly good. Excited for the reparations of this battle coming next.

Chapter 45 - The Gourmet is an alright villain, I like what he’s trying to bring out of Kaneki. Touka’s badass in this chapter, her Kagune is damn cool. One thing however is the action scenes I find very hard to visually follow. The Kagunes move around really strangely and it’s a bit disorienting when reading. Story is still high quality and I’m excited to see where Nishiki and Kimi end up.
