This wasn't over the top like most NA are, but at the same time it was still more of the same. Abusive past, traumatic deaths, misunderstandings/miss communication, boy love girls and pushes her away, both love each other "from the moment they met", slutshaming, and blah, blah, blah. It just wasn't as ridiculously dramatic some other titles in the NA genre.

“I loved you too, Sarah. Probably from the first moment I saw you.”

Am I really the only person thinking these kinds of things aren't romantic? Not even in fantasies do I find this romantic. It's cheesy, and imo, kinda demeaning? Can't explain why in - *checks how many characters I have left* - 117 characters.

Not sure if I can call this a twist. It was, uhm, obvious? Was I supposed to not figure it out from page one? Have I read too many mysteries in my days? Given my limited days and the mysteries (in comparison), I have to say no.

Painfully obvious from first chapter.

Can't understand what this book wants to be. A book on grief? Characters and relationships aren't complex enough. A romance? The love interest is underdeveloped. Small town life? Not enough atmosphere. Something else? Can't tell.

I thought I couldn’t really love anyone until I saw Spencer again. Then I realized the problem wasn’t that I couldn’t love—it was that I couldn’t love anyone but him.

I think reading romance has made me cynical, because this isn't the least romantic imo.

“That’s right. They were like the Spencer Pierce fan club. I forgot about those skanks. Sorry, Sarah. No offense.”

And what exactly made Sarah better than them? She was crushing all the same on Spencer. If the difference is that she wasn't all over him all the time or she wasn't running after boys in general, then I'm calling bullshit.

When we were kids, Spencer came off as introverted but cocky.

Given that we have alternation timelines (we read about when they were kids) this shouldn't be included (or told). It should've been shown in the "before" POV. btw, I didn't get this impression of him; to be honest I barely got an impression of him at all.

Because of my red hair, she seemed to like the Anne of Green Gables comparison, which was much better than Annie or Pippi Longstocking,

Out of those two, I'd rather be Pippi; she was badass (and sassy). I mean, do you know any kid who could/can lure two cops up on the roof? No? didn't think so.

“But she’s better than the skanky groupies he picks up when she’s not around.”

Of course the girls who are into the heroine's love interest are skanky groupies.

New Adult, step it up, you're still predictable.

"You’re like a modern Anne of Green Gables. You’re the nice girl who gets the guy, and I’m the slutty secondary character who ends up alone but gets taught a valuable lesson.”

Sounds like a prerequisite for a new adult heroine and her best friend.

Can you call it infodumping when it's basically dumping everything that happened except for the event that caused everything else? Like, X happened so then I did this, that, and then this, and during that I felt this, that, and then this.

I'm calling it infodumping, the New Adult version.

But from that day forward, the feminine wiles lying dormant inside me began to bubble to the surface. Spencer had awoken them.

Decent prologue aside (yes, this is a rarity in new adult), this still bothers me.
