Status Updates From Killing Season

As I am reading this book, it begins being quite focused on the lives of people in high school. It seems much more like a YA (young adult) book more than a adult mystery. As such, I am finding it a little bit boring.

Please, please, PLEASE let this book be over soon. It's gone from badly written characters and unrealistic relationships to terribly written characters with smutty relationships that don't make any sense! The characters have absolutely no chemistry, they don't act even remotely like actual teenagers, and HOW IN THE WORLD ARE THEY ABLE TO DO ALL THESE THINGS AT 17??

My resolve to finish every book has become a curse.

I'm about a third of the way through and a little put off by the dialogue. I went into this believing it's a YA, so no surprises there, but why are the characters like this??? I'm a teen myself, and I have NEVER acted like or met a teen that acts like the characters in these books. In fact, the adults in this book don't even seem real. The plot is interesting, but I can't get over these characters
