Hated the love interest in the third story. Too much talk about god for my liking, as well.

Second story seems much better, and much more what I had expected...
also, there is a lot of talking about a cinnamon spice cake... and that sounds delicious...

holy moly... this is such a train wreck... when I think it can't get worse, it does... turns out he is HER former slave owner (but she doesn't remember him, because her family fled when she a child)... also, he is made out to be some kind of hero for saving some black soldiers during the war... and the one time she stands up to him, she ends up apologising to him...

it gets worse... white woman asks him if he had owned slaves, he says yes and when asked if he freed them before the war, he says no... white lady: "Well, they are free now." and that's the whole discussion we are going to get on that topic...
I mean, yes, it's romance, but maybe, just don't make a former slave owner the main love interest?
and all that in a Juneteenth collection...

the ex-confederate is half-mexican, half-irish... and this just came out of his mouth "Evidently, American are more tolerant of a black Irishman than a Mexican immigrant."

When you read "The Brightest Day: A Juneteenth Historical Romance Anthology" would you not expect romances with 2 Black leads? Or is that just me?
First story is interracial... nothing wrong with that, but def. not what I was expecting from that title... (also, the love interest is an ex-confederate soldier... I am feeling apprehensive...)

A Sweet Way to Freedom by Piper Hugley
I struggle with romances with accidental pregnancy on the best of days, but when you give me one with a hero who doesn't want to take responsibility for much of anything in his life? I'm pretty much checked out before we even really get started.

This is one of those novellas that doesn't work for me because I'm like ??? how did you decide you love each other that fast? It was good and if you can just fill in the blanks of their history so their story is satisfying, you'll probably really enjoy it.
CW for talk of rape and sexual assault

Tbh, the last thing I wanted to read tonight (or ever) is a romance about a redeemed Confederate soldier trying to do better. It's a little too 2019 for me. Hopefully the other stories in this anthology work better for me.

The first two stories were pretty engaging, but the third story is slowing me down. I'm just having a difficult time getting into it.

I've read two of the 4 novellas (the first and the last). They were both so incredible!
