Status Updates From Edo Cats: Tails of Old Tokyo

Yes the tournament is over and I did not continue the updates. Both the Yokozuna had withdrawn, leaving the lower ranks room to move up. The champion was Mitakeumi who won over rival Takakeisho. Takayasu and Ichinojo had also dropped out, and Tochinoshin underperformed. I knew few of the newer rikishi and admit I stopped watching everyday. There had been FOUR yokozuna just 2 years ago. A good story for next time.

Day 2. The big news was that yokozuna Hakuho has withdrawn after losing yesterday, the report is he has an injured pinky from July. Lots have 2-0 records, notably Kakuryo, Goeido, Takakeisho, Mitakeumi, Endo, Shodai, Tamawashi, and Myogiryu - who has the hardest name to pronounce. Enho, the smallest guy, also is 2-0, today when he won the crowd went wild and cheered and yelled. Clearly he is very popular.

Today was the first day of the September tournament. Many of the wrestlers are back for this, but Takayasu has withdrawn due to ongoing arm injury. There were a few upsets today. Enho the smallest sumo ever beat Onosho. Kotoshogiku lost controversially. Ryuden and Tamawashi won. Abi lost. Takakeisho won, a good comeback. Ichinojo won. But Mitakeumi lost! And the Biggest upset was Hakuho lost!! Kakuryo won his match.
