7 pages in, my contempt and disgust rise. Shakespeare believes him to be singular, though Constable’s “unusual allure” extended to, not one but, three sovereigns. Meanwhile, pathetic, trusting “Shakespeare again and again tells us his friend is singular; but this does not mean anyone else in the world need arrive at the same judgment.” Of course not. Exactly as “Sweete Constable” intends. Lovely.
