"A Performance Artist" by Lettie Prell - Unbelievably good. Takes a lot of the ambiguity of Kafka's "A Hunger Artist" (which I imagine this is in direct conversation with) and rather than seeking to clarify, it widens the gap between artist and audience. Incredible economy of language as well. Fucking metal. Excellent.

I just joined the slush team at Apex so I figure I'd better refresh myself with the kinds of stories they like.

Candy Girl by Chikodili Emelumadu - It is probably worth it to self-interrogate why I find this micro-genre (my ex was lame/shitty so I'm going to torture and kill him) kind of cringe. I'm worried it says something about me but at the same time... idk, I find it a bit excessive.
HOWEVER-- this is absolutely one of the better examples of this genre I've read. The twist/reveal was clever and fun.
