I redact my previous comment about Telephone Canyon.
One of us is wrong and I'm not sure who. Google says that Telephone is between Laramie and Cheyenne. However, Bosler/Sybille Canyon is between Wheatland and Laramie. It can be very beautiful and dangerous. And the author was describing a canyon between Wheatland and Laramie that spits you out on the prarie 15 miles from Bosler...

BOSLER Canyon. BOSLER. Or Sybille if you're in Laramie and want to make friends. I have never ever heard it called Telephone Canyon.
