Status Updates From The Argonauts

Loving this so far. Maggie Nelson’s writing is complex in a way that makes me question my own intelligence sometimes, but like in a good way that feels like I’m learning.

“Silverman’s aperture does not seem wide enough to include an enjoyment that doesn’t derive from filling a void, or love that is not merely balm for a wound. So far as I can tell, most worthwhile pleasures on this earth slip between gratifying another and gratifying oneself.”

So far, this is great. I really like this kind of work, and it’s the kind of academic work I would want to do. Find it funny, though, that I read this book in my junior or senior year of high school. I remember that I didn’t understand a word. Queer theory will do that.
