Status Updates From A Practical Guide to Dragons

I love that the "author" thanks his entire family, even ones who died, and even extended family. Hilarious.

I guess in older editions, it is the silver dragon that is the largest of metallic dragons.

Now there's an idea for DnD. How come I've never thought of that before now?

Not sure why they made gold dragons to look like elderly Asians with their thin whiskers and slanted eyes. Why not just use typical Eastern dragons?

And gold dragons are the largest of the metallics.

I think I will have a hard time trying to RP a copper dragon since they are so humorous, witty, and talkative.

I've never imagined a bronze dragon's repulsion breath being stinky. I always imagined it more like telekinesis, where it pushes the targets away without causing harm.

Interesting. There's a difference in dragon incubation periods according to this book. Wish there was a bit more than just brass and red though.

The brass dragon wingspan is rather small, but if you look at the picture on the previous page and of earlier pages, you will notice that metallic dragons' wings run the length of their body to their tails rather than being outstretched like a typical dragon.

Red dragons are the largest the Chromatic Dragons. 22 feet is enormous, but their wingspan is an impressive 150 ft!

I do like this map of a green dragon's lair being quite organized and square like a home. Not carved into the rock or anything.

Green dragons may have a similar appearance as Puff the Magic Dragon, but they are far from friendly.

It seems that green dragons are a little smaller than blacks or blues. At 10 feet, they would be considered Large size, not Huge.

In a side-campaign that I made while I was trying to bring in new players, I actually had a blue dragon make its lair in the home of a purple worm after it had killed the worm.

The ability of blue dragons casting illusion magic to make people hallucinate doesn't seem to have carried over into 5e. Dragons capable of casting spells must've been either a 3.5 or 4e thing.

One thing that I do like about these older edition books compared to the newer ones is that they made the pages actually look like a journal with the weathering/yellowing of the pages.

A black dragon's maximum height is 16 feet?! *Thinks over the sizes of creatures* No, no, that fits. A Huge creature is between 15-18 feet tall.

Maybe I should just keep to the "Practically Complete Guide to Dragons" if it even has the wingspan shapes of dragons that's on these pages. Nah, I like to see how this is set up; how much information is in here compared to the other book.

I love this page of Draconic words. In the 5th edition of this book, there are a lot more examples.

That's right. Kender are naturally fearless. He would not be affected by a dragon's fear presence.

I think that this is the only mention of chlorine gas being the poison breath of a green dragon.

I like the Latin-esque words for the different muscles of a dragon.

This page and the next was what was missing in "An Anatomy of Dragons:" a look of a dragon's skeleton and the organs.

Interesting. The mentioning of Kender makes me think this takes place in the Dragonlance world.

I had no idea until I started getting into DnD that these books were affiliated with it. This was published in 2006, and the other book that I have that is like it is "A Practical Guide to Monsters." Essentially, these are really simple, easy to digest books on DnD monsters.
