Oh, now we have a new character and a jealous king. *exhales heavily* I'm extraordinarily harsh/annoyed only BECAUSE the first 40% had me so captivated, so engaged, that's it's a heavier feeling of betrayal than if I were skimming interest from the get-go. Brilliant ideas and I can feel the intense passion of the writer, but the dvlpmnt, the emphasis on immature characters and simplified situations, pushed me away.

And the secondaries need more development into fulfilling entities unto themselves, truly affecting and interacting with the king, instead of always saying something shallow and walking away.

Skimming now, chapters 16 and 17. I just can't take how dismissive and how teenage-jock-stupid the biggest authority of the country are acting. I probably could suspend disbelief a little longer if I hadn't grown irritated and annoyed by Brandon and Alistair's "romance" scenes. They are incredibly dissatisfying because they have ripped away potential. And their immaturity is mind-boggling.

Noo! *moans, rests head in hands* another fade out sex scene ALREADY?! Seriously losing my patience with this book (because it WAS so deliciously good and now it's not).

Oh my god, this guy's immaturity is idiotic! You have a war brewing! You won't have time to wonder at your gay feelz when your country is taken over and your f-in dead or a prisoner of the conquering king! Jesus. Get your head out of your ass, man.

And arrogant. Incompetent, selfish, immature and arrogant. I sure those qualities were mentioned in the job application for... BEING A BLOODY KING! I am liking allistar less and less.

Also, got a little surprise for you allistar: your councilmen want you removed for reasons of incompetence? Surprise! You ARE an incompetent leader of your country. Holy hell this guy is immature.

WHAT. What. We had such delicious slow build up. I was expecting the detailed, rich, first sensual scene to end in maybe a leveling up of intimate actions. But not! Not! A sudden switch from detailed kiss and frot descriptions to a PARAGRAPH SUMMING up full penetration and then dumped back out to the end of the gasping end. What the what?! I am severely disappointed.

And again, man, was it good tense.

I am a-swirl of emotions re: the scene where Brandon reveals he is gay (potentially deadly revelation). At first, I was uncomfortable with, didn't like, the way he made his crush into something mean and petty and manipulative and competitive. But then, I realized how brilliantly and carefully he set up his reveal to protect himself while getting the king to at least become aware of him in a different light.
