This is significantly longer than Gifune‘s regular novels and I can‘t help but feel that this could have used some trimming. The writing is still great but it drags a bit. Not his best work.

Compared to other Gifune novels this drags a bit and becomes slightly repetitive towards the middle. I hope we are in for a strong finale now so there is some pay off for the build up

You start reading a Gifune and you just know that it is him. Even if this so far is not quite up there with his best works like "The Bleeding Season" or "Children of Chaos" this man is one of the best and most consistent voices of contemporary horror fiction. Period.
