Conrad Black grew up very wealthy, is a “new definition” Conservative, and wrote a very limited biography praising Donald Trump in 2018.
His historical research on Canada seems very well done, however his disdain for the US does come out sometimes, disguised by humor, which is where he spent 3 years in prison for a huge fraud scheme, which he blamed on a “flawed legal system”.
Trump pardoned him in 2019.

Conrad Black’s Vol 1 on the history of Canada explains the relationships between New England, “New France”, and the ties between Canada and the American colonies immensely well.
He may be one of the best historical writers I have read. Easily comparable if not more so to Michener & Beschloss
He uses just enough cheeky humor to make you laugh, and make his extensive material easier to collate in your head.
