Status Updates From The Beartooth Highway: A Hi...

My currently reading shelf was going to collapse from the weight so I buckled down to finish this (finally).

Such slow going! Alas, I do like this quote, "Hyperbole has, indeed, been the key to all descriptions of the Beartooth Highway since it officially opened for traffic in 1936 [p. 73].

What with the large photo section, I'm over half way done! I love that the author used tons of Flickr photos. LOL, but is it sad that the book is over half done and they've only just starting building the thing?

Speaking of the National Parks Approaches Act of 1931, "Congress intended the legislation to apply to three national parks: Yellowstone, Yosemite and Sequoia. Evidence suggests, however, that the law was, in fact, intended specifically for the Red-Lodge-Cooke City highway." [p. 52]

"The proposed road would generate intense debate in Congress for nearly a decade before President Herbert Hoover signed the legislation creating the Beartooth Highway in 1931." [p. 39] Wow, I love that the road was built, but was there nothing more interesting to debate in Congress for a decade??? [I know there was, but still, the mind boggles...]
