i really want to like this but the prose is soooooooooooooooooooooo purple and it drags the story down to a crawl

the more i read this book, the more i wonder if it's actually not about jesus at all but about us, christ in each of us struggling to become, as he says in the introduction, “this book is not a biography; it is the confession of every man who struggles.” he's driven by the question of how a normal human would fare with the burden of carrying out god’s will. in some sense, perhaps you are meant to become christ.
