Bryson is completely wrong about Pennsylvania "Dutch"which he thinks is an English dialect. Pennsylvania Dutch is not an English dialect as he claims, but a Low German one, similar to some spoken in Germany today and also to Yiddish. It is completely incomprehensible to English-only speakers, a fact which my own grandparents took advantage of, using it as a secret language in front of their children.
