He stopped stubbornly before the door.

‘I never knew how hard it is to die,’ he said simply.

'Life is a peculiar venture,' he was fond of saying. 'You never know how low or high you'll go. No matter how you rise in the world never look down on another. That way you can never go far wrong'

It was like grasping water to think how quickly the years had passed here.

They were nearly gone.
