If I was in the story, in the morally conservative 1890s, commentators on women and the bicycle wouldn't often touched on issues related to reproduction.
"...,thanks in large part to women's schools and colleges that turned out healthy students for motherhood despite a steady diet of..." it stood out most because its thanking women's schools and colleges that helped that help the students get ready for motherhood.
